September has come after a long, surreal summer. Early mornings bear hints of autumn chill, school buses ferry eager students through city streets, and offices repopulate with sun-tanned workers back from far-flung holidays. A sense of beginnings (a stubborn vestige of the school cycle) saturates this month.
